Les vignes sont plantées dans un sol composé de galets roulés Villafranchiens, cela permet un meilleur emmagasinement de la chaleur du soleil la journée pour la restituer la nuit. Ces cailloux permettent aussi aux eaux de pluie de s'infiltrer jusqu'aux nappes phréatiques qui alimenteront la vigne durant la saison sèche.
